This month we are celebrating the nice weather by studying plants and plant life, food that comes from plants and learning about the growth and rebirth of spring. We are also taking opportunities to go outside as much as possible and observe our lovely garden.

Every moment of the day is prepared with the Montessori philosophy in mind: treating the children with respect, offering freedom of choice, and fostering autonomy. We practice and encourage mannerly and gracious social habits. We know that children learn best by doing. Montessori is the active pursuit of many different experiences: physical, emotional, and cognitive. Every element of the day is in keeping with these principles.

This month we will also be taking time to discuss all the changes around us. In the month of April children will be learning about flowers, trees and plants growing and the many colors around us.

Each group of children is a little community in our school. The multi-age grouping of 3, 4 and 5year old greatest opportunity for collaboration and cooperation. By developing a sense of responsibility for themselves and others, children grow in self-discipline and self-esteem.

Our schools provide a stimulating education steeped in the Montessori philosophy and infused with current instructional best practices. We provide students with a rich and individualized education, tailored to support future success in their local and global communities. Spring is a terribly busy time for plants animals and insects. Plants are blooming, animals awaking from hibernation, insects hatching, birds returning from the south and weather warming up. The children will explore where animals, plants and insects have been all winter and how they will adapt and prepare for the new season. The children have been busy learning their beginning sounds, numbers, and memory math facts. We have been doing many group lessons in collective. This way, we are all learning together and helping each other learn the sound each letter makes and identifying words with that letter. As we move into March, we will be moving on to the continent of Europe. If you have items at home that you brought from a trip or may be educational that you would like your child to share at school, please feel free to send it on every Fridays.

This month, we will teach our students about the planet earth and gravity, seasons of the year, weather, how bees pollinate trees and food sources, and, of course, feelings. Books are a great way to introduce a wide variety of subjects we will be discussing more in-depth in March.

Montessori math is carefully sequenced, so students develop the ability to reason through problems rather than memorizing. Younger students are introduced to concepts of size and quantity, classification, and linear progression through use of concrete manipulatives.

Montessori materials help children refine their senses. Developing pattern and shape recognition eventually builds math and science skills as the child progresses.

Practical Life – Children learn to dress themselves, tie their shoes and wash their hands, helping develop fine motor skills. Elementary years include community service.

The year is off to a great start so far and we are enjoying spending the winter season with you and your children.  As January ends and February begins, our school’s focus and appreciation turn to friendship. The staff has discussed and chosen to create our own unique Montessori ways to honoring relationships this month. Our students are learning to identify and name objects in the world.

Language Arts We will continue with our winter animal cards at “Circle time”. February’s animals will include a ground hog, coyote, and a chickadee. We will continue to incorporate actions (modeling) and words of kindness, such as “gentle, please, thank you and asking a friend “are you ok?”

Practical Life color ice cubes melt. Our students will continue practical life works such as sponge squeezing, scooping, and pouring. This month’s cooking project will involve making friendship mix. Ingredients include cheerios, puffs, and raisins.

Fine Motor Fine motor skills are defined as the ability to control and coordinate small muscles of the wrist and hand. Reaching for objects, stacking blocks, shape sorters, turning a page in a book, puzzles, magnetic rods, nesting cubes, balls, and posting. These are examples of activities that promote fine motor development in our room.

Art: Valentines/puff paint/ and finger paint

Math/Sensorial · Sorting work. · Challenging nesting boxes / holes to line up. · Layer puzzle.

Science Water Science…we will experiment with food coloring & different cooking utensils to help the kids observe some simple scientific principles: · Food coloring added to water will create changes they can see. · Stirring water creates currents and swirls. · Some objects will sink, and others will float. · A small amount of water left sitting in a bowl for several days will evaporate.

Our programs are designed to provide an environment of individual education, tailored to each child’s learning style and capabilities. Our students are taught math, reading, spelling and science, using special materials and methodologies.

The Montessori curriculum is individualized to each child’s needs, so the child may learn at their own pace in their own interested areas. We offer a diverse program from art, math, and science, to keep every young mind motivated and excited in their daily activities.

January we will get back into our non-holiday routines as we continue to work with Montessori Math, Language, Sensorial and Practical Life. We will explore animals in winter. What do they do? Where do they go? How do they find food? We will strengthen fine motor skills as we string a garland with animal friendly food to hang outside for animals who may have trouble finding food this time of year. We will also learn about Martin Luther King Jr. and explore the wonderful example he was.

Each day begins with engaging circle time! Young preschoolers learn about colors, shapes, numbers, and letters. Arts and crafts are incorporated into daily lessons. We like to get messy and create! We use different media such as paint, play dough and other common (and uncommon) materials. We provide manipulative activities to develop eye-hand coordination, small motor skills and problem-solving skills. Developing an awareness of other children and people in their environment are a part of the toddler’s day.

We will be talking about Martin Luther Kind, Jr. and will learn why he was so important to America and the effect he had. In the classroom we set up each activity with a control of error so that the success of the child is guaranteed. With improving skill, the self-correcting factor is gradually removed so that the child’s own skill becomes the control of error. This applies to social as well as academic skill development. We are equipping these children not only for academic success but for success in life as well. With the incredible technological tools at their disposal combined with a respectful approach to the balance of life on this planet and a fierce sense of responsibility how can these children do anything but succeed?

Classroom materials are always accessible, attractive, safe, and geared for a child’s success. Activities are changed regularly in response to children’s need for variety and challenge as they grow and learn.

December is the month to learn about the holidays! Children will be introduced to themes surrounding Christmas and other seasonal celebrations. More specifically, preschoolers will discuss the varying traditions of each holiday, along with creating decorations, singing fun songs, and participating in read aloud to gain more information about the celebrations and promote discussion among students! Our children will keep practicing numbers, letters, and shapes by tracing it. Open and honest communication is the key to a successful preschool experience for children and their parents. Our friendly staff will help with every step of transition to ensure happiness and safety of the children. Our center and staff are continuously improving, our goal is to provide the best care for the little ones, help our children feel confident and comfortable in relating needs and feelings to others and to have positive self-esteem. We use positive reinforcement in all aspects of our Montessori program.

This is just one of the many reasons why I am thankful for this wonderful Montessori philosophy and its methods. The child is not just pouring the water using two pitchers; the child is learning to focus, learning to practice the whole hand movements form left to right for next reading and writing. Also, the child is learning to be independent by concentrating on the work he or she has chosen, the child is practicing order by putting the lesson back to its place, the child is learning eye-hand coordination,  at the same time he or she is enjoying what they are doing without any external pressure. All the lessons in a Montessori classroom have a valuable reason to help the child’s development need. In our classrooms the practical life area one of the most important area for our kids they did learn a lot. Montessori program is quite different from what you would find in traditional schools. In our both classroom the materials are carefully prepared to accomplish the following purposes, small motor control and eye-hand coordination a sense of order and development of organization skills, independence, and self-confidence. We did teach our children how to use practical life materials for example how to pour water without spilling, dressing, washing hands, simple food preparation, putting away materials when finished, matching colors, sorting by shapes and sizes. We did add Sensorial, math and language area also in Ms. Gayane and Ms. Angineh classroom. We will keep practicing our Montessori materials and we will do a lot of arts and crafts.

The Montessori method of education offers a knowledge-rich environment, through a child-led model. Children learn joyfully, through working with carefully sequenced, hands-on materials. Our childcare center is open year-round and offers a program for preschoolers, and children transitioning into Kindergarten. We teach our children self-respect, respect for others, and respect for their surroundings and a love for learning. When you choose Montessori, you are making a wonderfully conscientious decision toward thoughtful education. We endeavor to exceed your expectations with our quality of care and with the scholastic goals we have set for our students. In Montessori, we encourage the children to ask questions to move forward in their comprehension, and we ask that you as parents do the same! We are here to help you, as well as your child, through this maze of early childhood education. The month of November the class will learn about fun with families and friends. We are learning about all different type of families, the feeling we get from our families and how we can show our families how we love them. We are going to talk about Thanksgiving and how we celebrate them in our homes. The last week of November the weather will be our focus, we will learn about our favorite weather and the seasons we have in the year. The following are activities the class will be doing this month. We will learn letters Ee and Ff, numbers 5 and 6, shapes diamond, colors- Brown and Orange, we will do a lot of artwork related to Thanksgiving. Also, we will keep practice with our Montessori Materials. For the time being, each child will have their own art project materials and toys to play with it. The school will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected the end of each school day. The facility will be ventilated before children come to school and when the weather allows during the day. All toys and materials that have been used that day will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. All surfaces and tabletops, high touch objects and bathrooms, will be disinfected multiple times throughout the day. Continued focus on education about health, safety, and hygiene in an age appropriate manner. We will continue to practice good hand washing habits.

Art and schoolwork will be sent home just once a week.

Dear: Learning Stars Families

I have been working in Early Childhood Education for 7 years, across all of my experiences I have observed many philosophies and styles of education along the way but throughout all of these experiences one fact has remained; All children deserve quality early childhood education in a nurturing, engaging and safe environment with knowledgeable and caring teachers to support them on their educational journey. I am excited to step into in new program which called “Montessori program” and I am ready to support our staff and continuing to provide quality care for you and your children.

This month we have lots of fall activities planned, we are doing many projects and you will start to see the room transform into a fall. We are focusing on the Alphabet and counting this month. We are doing projects and activities that correspond with the letter that we are doing. In October we will be following the same theme but also incorporating fall projects into the classroom. We will also be talking more about fall weather, and as the rainy season approaches, we will learn about the benefits of rain for the environment. We have several things to impart to you for the month of October. Academically, we will be continuing to go over shapes, colors, and numbers. We will also be concentrating on one letter a week. Our goal is to have the children recognize their letters and be able to identify their sounds. Also, we are going to teach our kids about how to use Montessori Materials. We will teach them more about Practical life and Math. We will show them how and why we are going to use Montessori Materials.

Learning Stars Preschool dose follow public health guidelines. Every morning I do check staff and children’s temperatures before they enter in. Our both classroom we do have small group of students and the same group of children must be kept with the same teachers every day. Even within those small groups, we do follow the CDC guidelines we do keep our students six feet away from each other, each student has their own toys and own space to play and have fun. Even though they cannot play with each other or share a toy but still we try our best to keep a fun day for them. Teachers and students are wearing a mask. Our toys must be sanitized after being used, and hands should be washed throughout the day.

These activities are complex, with many steps that must be performed sequentially in order to achieve the result, helping our children strengthen key executive functioning skills. We give a child the opportunity to take on meaningful work that child can complete independently, while developing concentration. The practical life activities also prepare a child for writing by strengthening her or his hand and reinforcing motions and muscles important for producing the written word. Most importantly, we allow a child to absorb the basic, methodical problem-solving approach that is the foundation for all thought or creative expression, including such diverse areas as math, science, art and language.

CDC suggests teachers to model behavior to students, such as washing hands with soap for 20 second and staying 6 feet away from each other also keep the mask on. We did teach our students how to keep 6 feet distance from each other’s and not to share any toys or food with each other. It was extremely hard, but we did it. Our students are very smart they did follow all the guidelines that required form La county Department of Public Health.

Month of the September we will be teaching our students begging sounds, numbers, Montessori materials and memory math facts. We will teach them individually lessons in. This way, we will be helping each other to stay healthy. We will review all the previous lessons we learned before moving forward, I feel review is always good for students, because that way we can catch up lessons that we missed form past moths.

Respect for the child is the cornerstone on which all other Montessori principles rest. Teachers show respect for our children by providing them with the opportunity to do, think, and learn for themselves. Through freedom of choice, children can develop skills and abilities needed to become confident learners. As a result, our children are independent, and are respectful of their environment and others. The goal of our both classrooms are to create a harmonious learning space that encourages independent learning. Elements of a prepared environment include freedom, structure, order, nature and integration of the social and intellectual aspects of child development.
